Thoughts

It has almost been a year now since Mummy had her stroke. I contemplate Christmas now without her and know that her influence pervades all our lives. The Christmas puddings, cake, mincemeat and mince pies, the bread sauce , cranberry sauce, pigs in blankets and stuffing were all inspired by her. The decorations and the Christmas lights all pay tribute to her memory. I cannot enter a shop without her voice in my head reminding me of what she thought and advice she gave (it has left me in tears sometimes but it is a gift to feel that she is here still in that way). Most of all I feel gratitude; some people never have even a glimpse of the great love that she shared with all of us everyday. She was such a blessing and a source of such great joy in our lives. Her death can never destroy that and each time that I think of any event, scene, food or activity that Mummy would have loved that I feel close to and loved by her still.

It's lovely to read the stories, seeing our Mum from another perspective. Jayne - thanks for sharing those pictures too - they are great to see - particularly the one of Josie sitting down with her school children. Didn't she look glam 💃. I even managed to make an appearance in one 😃. If anyone has the time, we would really appreciate any more stories & photos from before or during our time.

I thought a would share some of the beautiful things that Mummy made in the photo gallery I have started with some of the lovely things that she made for my wedding. The bands on the wedding cake depicted images that had personal significance to us. There were swans (from the nature reserve), four leaf clover (for luck), harebells and wild strawberries (from the china dinner service I collected depicting flowers I loved from the golf course and garden). Two hymns from the wedding were depicted on the second band; Thaxted by Holst and Praise my Soul the King of Heaven. On the third were the flowers used in my bouquet; yellow and pink roses. The first time I saw any of these was on the day Ken and I married.
