Mummy had the most amazing fingernails even to the end of her life. They were so beautiful and so long. I never ceased to be amazed that they did not stop her making her lovely pastry of doing embroidery, knitting or crochet. She used to have a lot of fun going into the large department stores trying different colours on her nails. Sometimes she would come out with each nail painted a different colour. She did not stick with conventional colours either she would often wear metallic colours; gold, silver sparking nail varnishes with glitter that I remember from my childhood. Her favourit colour to wear was however a deep red. Often complete strangers would approach her on the street and remark how lovely they were.
