Josie’s hair style

My mother had beautiful long hair. When she let it fall down loose it reached more than halfway down her back. As a child I loved watching her do her hair in the mornings. She would comb her hair out down her back then she would throw it forward over her head.so she could comb the back of her hair thoroughly. She then split her hair in two parts which she would hold with two ring hair grips. She made two high pony tails on her head. She prepared the front section first. She would release it from the ring that she had put in when separating her hair in two parts. She would comb the front part of her hair again then, and in my view most alarmingly she would back comb it to fill her hair with air. She would then comb it again the proper way over her face, gather it up and produce the bun at the front of her head which was most characteristically her hair style. She held it in place using several light brown hair pins. Her hair was so long the bun at the front did not hold it so she would make a roll from the ends of her hair and hold that in place with more pins. She would then prepare the back part of her hair. She would reposition the back pony tail so it was higher on her head and split it into two and then two again. She would pin each quarter section into a neat roll finishing with those at the back of her head. After all this was done she would make sure everything was neat by pinning up any loose hairs at the back of her head. She was so efficient doing this that it would hardly take her any time in the morning. I was always fascinated watching her prepare it.it was a hair style she created for herself, it was distinctly hers; i have never seen anyone arrange their hair in the same way. My mother was most amused a couple of years ago when, whilst walking in Beeston two young women came up to her, complimented her on her hair style and asked her how she did it.
